Styles I Like this Fall – The Fair Isle Sweater

Hello Gentlemen,

My apologies for not posting in a long time. I’m back! And this time I have a great style post to share – The Fair Isle sweater.

I’m sure most of you have seen stylish gents rocking colorful and great looking sweaters lately and have been wondering “where did those come from?”

The Fair Isle is a traditional knitting technique used to create patterns with multiple colors. It is named after a tiny island in the north of Scotland, called Fair Isle, that forms part of the Shetland Islands. Fair Isle knitting gained a considerable popularity when the Prince of Wales (later to become Edward VIII) wore Fair Isle tank tops in public in 1921. But I believe it just gained major popularity in the US, well in my eyes.

Here are a few I really like and will be wearing this fall.

J Crew Lambswool Inverness Fair Isle Sweater – $118

Ben Sherman Shawl Fair Isle Sweater – $125

Henri Fair Isle Wool Sweater by Monsieur Lacenaire – $140

River Island Navy Fair Isle Hoodie- $50

Fair Isle Merino V Neck Sweater by J Crew – $148

Here are some ways to wear this stylish Fair Isle Sweater.

The good thing about them is that if you choose to dress them up or down, they’ll still show your sense of style and make you stand out in a room full of style wannabes :-).

THE JACKET LOOK

Go for a layered look by throwing on a stylish jacket ( try a blazer, a denim jacket or a down vest as shown below). This way you stay warm while the beauty of the sweater still comes through.

THE CASUAL LOOK

Going to a party this holiday season that calls for a look a little more casual? Go in style with the Fair Isle sweater, a casual long sleeve button-down shirt and your favorite pair of blue jeans (yeah that one that gives you a good behind).

THE “DRESSIER” LOOK

Believe it or not the Fair Isle can actually be worn to work. Well, depending on where you work and what the culture and dress code is. Match it up with a solid or patterned tie. Feel free to match the color of your tie with one of the colors in that bright sweater.
